Weight Watchers

I’ve gone back.  Again.  This is my, uh, fifth (maybe sixth?) time going back since 1999.  I’m concerned that I’m overweight, single, unhappy with myself, and almost 40.  Perhaps this is the February blahs taking over, but it is four months till I turn 40.  14 Weeks – if I lost 1 pound per week, I’d be a lot further ahead than I am now.

today’s thing… Power Foods (likely only available to WW online subscribers). If I eat “real” food, and stop when I’m full, I can eat whatever I want.  I need to make it like a game.

Think good thoughts.

Soup Stock

Have you ever thought about making your own soup boullion?

I live in a small apartment and don’t cook as often as I probably should so having big cartons of pre-made soup stock is a little too much.  But small – space saving boullion cubes have who-knows-what in em.  Solution: Make your own Boullion

I’m kind of  on a soup kick so I’m also going to try to make the Weight Watchers Zero point soup (although I always add barley, rice, and or beans to this so it is never zero, but still super healthy).  Potato and Leek soup appeals (very simple recipe) and T has a fantastic recipe for Green Bean Soup that I can’t find anywhere online (and she’s away).  If I remember correctly, it is made from a bag of frozen green beans, soup stock, some spices (at least one bay leaf), worstershire sauce … but I’m missing something.  Then you blend it up, and put in a roux.  All the ones I search for online have ham in em, or no blending or something that isn’t this recipe.  That’s not what I’m looking for.

My food choices yesterday weren’t wonderful, but not completley terrible.

Last night after Weight Watchers, I hit the grocery store.  Today’s choices are much better.

I’ve also got some homemade soup in the fridge too.  Notice the almost empty bottle of water?  That’s huge for me (I drink a lot of Diet Pepsi).  My mother is horrified (and reading this so is likely very happy to see water and veg introduced into my meals.)

Good Cara.

  • I’ve been struck by an insatiable urge to knit mittens.  I don’t know why.  But I have a pair on the needles.  One hand is done except for the thumb, and the other hand has a wrist done already.  I’m using Ann Budd’s Basic Mittens pattern and some Bernat 90% Acrylic, 10% wool stuff whose name I can’t remember.  Look here for photos.
  • I went into Weight Watchers last night and asked the leader not to tell me what I weighed.  I was THAT convinced that the number was bad and I just couldn’t take it.  Her “but what if the news was that you lost a pound and a half?” was pretty cool.  My problem is that I’ve done this before and I get complacent.  Eat something and WRITE IT DOWN.  And put down the Chocolate chips!
  • I also was browsing through photos and found one of me from 2003.  This was from just after my sister’s wedding and a year of Weight Watchers success.  I wasn’t skinny by any stretch of the imagination, but I was happy with how I looked.  I want that again. I can do it.

Me - Happy with my weight.

My first post-joining Weight Watchers weigh in is coming up.  I don’t know what the result is going to be, but I’m hopeful.

I’ve been a member before using the old Points program … the new Points Plus program is pretty neat.

  • Love that fruit and most veggies are free.  LOVE LOVE LOVE.  I have no excuses to say that a processed granola bar is the same points value as that apple I’m avoiding.  I’ve never been good at eating fruit.  Apples, oranges, and berries seem to be what I’ll eat.
  • I’ve been adding blueberries to my oatmeal in the morning
  • I’ve been eating old fashioned oatmeal!  Cook it for the 10 minutes, then put it in individual containers for the week (with blueberries and maple syrup) and I’m set for breakfast.
  • Endemame.  President’s Choice has a frozen bag of them which is super accessible for me.  Yum…eeee.
  • Water – I’ve had a bit.  Not my full compliment, but I’m drinking some.

Onward ho.  I can do this.

PS – my feet STILL hurt.  Really hope this treatment takes, because I am not sure I can face another set of this.  Go back to the Doc Feb 3.  Have purchased Bunion pads for some releif – and have become known as Bunion at work (gleep).  Please make this go away!
